There was always something special about stepping away from our everyday routines and truly reconnecting as a family. For us, that place was always Blue Mountain. Over the years, it became more than just a getaway. It became a tradition we all looked forward to. It was where we relaxed, explored, and spent real, meaningful time together.

Booking a room with a full kitchen is always important for our family. For some, that might just be convenient, but for us it serves a bigger purpose. Benji and Giulietta have been working on meal preparation goals at home, and having a kitchen while we travel gives them the chance to practice those same skills in a different setting.

Cooking together became part of the trip itself. Choosing ingredients, helping prepare meals, and setting the table were not just tasks to get through. They were real opportunities to build independence and confidence. Watching them carry familiar routines into a new environment showed them that their skills were not limited to home.

They could do these things anywhere, and that sense of accomplishment really mattered. Our support workers joined us on every trip and played such an important role. Because of them, the kids were able to participate safely and fully in everything the mountain had to offer. That extra support gave Benji and Giulietta the confidence to try new activities and enjoy each experience without hesitation.

There was also plenty of simple fun woven into each day. The pool was always a highlight, especially the slides. Ice cream breaks quickly became a favourite tradition and something the kids looked forward to every single afternoon.

When I thought about why Blue Mountain felt so special, it came down to balance. Each visit brought something new to explore while still offering the comfort of familiarity and routine. It gave us space to grow, to practice independence, and to slow down together as a family.

The best trips were never just about the destination. They were about the moments we shared, the progress that was made, and the memories created along the way. For us, Blue Mountain was always a place where those moments came naturally.
