There has always been something special about stepping away from our everyday routines and truly reconnecting as a family. For us, that place has always been Blue Mountain. Over the years, it became more than just a getaway, it became a tradition we all looked forward to. It was where we could relax, explore, and spend meaningful time together.
One thing that has always been important for our family is booking a room with a full kitchen. While it may seem like a simple convenience, for us it serves a much bigger purpose. Benji and Giulietta have been working on meal preparation goals at home, and having access to a kitchen while traveling allows them to continue practicing those skills in a new environment.
Cooking together naturally became part of the experience. From choosing ingredients to helping prepare meals and setting the table, these moments were about more than just getting food ready. They created real opportunities for building independence and confidence. Watching them carry familiar routines into a different setting showed them that their abilities weren’t limited to home. they could succeed anywhere. That sense of accomplishment meant so much.
Our support workers joined us on every trip and played an essential role in making these experiences possible. With their support, the kids were able to participate safely and fully in everything the mountain had to offer. Having that extra layer of encouragement gave Benji and Giulietta the confidence to try new activities and embrace each moment without hesitation.
Of course, there was also plenty of simple fun woven into each day. The pool was always a highlight, especially the slides, and our afternoon ice cream breaks quickly became a favourite tradition, something the kids looked forward to every single day.
What made Blue Mountain truly special was the balance it offered. Each visit brought something new to discover, while still providing the comfort of familiarity and routine. It gave us space to grow, to build independence, and to slow down and enjoy time together.

In the end, the best trips were never just about the destination. They were about the moments we shared, the progress we witnessed, and the memories we created along the way. For our family, Blue Mountain will always be a place where those moments came naturally.
