Giulietta has always loved music. She lights up whenever she hears a guitar, ukulele, or piano, and she’s happiest when there’s music playing around her. Whether it’s a live band at a festival or someone strumming a tune at home, she’s completely captivated by the sounds and rhythms. Music brings her so much joy, it’s a big part of who she is.

Giulietta developed a deep love for music from an early age and enjoyed

listening to anyone play the guitar and her mom play the piano. Her mother met a

musician named Hazel who led a drum circle and taught piano. When asked if she

would teach Giulietta drumming, Hazel agreed. While Giulietta enjoyed drums, she was

truly drawn to the piano.

Hazel was especially gentle, kind, and patient, and creatively found a way to teach

Giulietta to play. The joy that Giulietta experienced from playing notes was remarkable,

and it was clear she could not only enjoy the sound but was thrilled to participate in

making music herself. Using coloured stickers on the keyboard that matched the coloured notes on simple sheet music, Giulietta learned to play songs.

At age 9, she performed on stage at the year-end concert for all of HazeL's students and their families, a large audience, in an auditorium. With guidance and support, Giulietta walked to the piano, sat down, looked at her notes, and played her song accompanied by Hazel. The entire auditorium roared with applause. Giulietta was proud and happy, as was her family. Music is an integral part of Giulietta’s everyday life.
