Shovel to Ground: Benji's Laneway Suite

For the past few years, Galit has been working closely with a builder to design the perfect laneway suite for Benji. Now 21 years old, Benji is ready for a space that reflects who he is and supports the life he deserves, one with purpose, dignity, and independence, while still ensuring he has the assistance he needs.

The suite is being built in the backyard, allowing Benji to have his own home while staying connected to his family and familiar routines. The design process has focused on what will make Benji feel comfortable in a space that truly belongs to him. Every detail has been planned with care, from layout to accessibility to creating an environment that supports his daily living.

This next step also brings exciting opportunities for growth. The space will allow us to focus on a wide range of daily living goals, including building independence in routines, strengthening life skills, encouraging decision making, and fostering a sense of responsibility and confidence. It also opens the door to developing social connections, exploring interests, and creating a rhythm of life that feels meaningful and empowering for Benji.

We recognize how fortunate we are to be able to create this opportunity for him. It is something we are deeply grateful for and do not take for granted. This suite represents not just a physical space, but a continued commitment to giving Benji a life filled with respect, support, and possibility.
