Because Giulietta is non-verbal, traditional resumes and interviews don’t highlight her strengths or the way she communicates. A visual resume allowed us to show her abilities in a clear and accessible way.

Visual Resume

We started by taking pictures and videos of Giulietta doing everyday tasks she already enjoys and is successful with, finding items at the store, placing them in the cart, matching words to products, and using her iPad to communicate. These real moments showed her independence and familiarity with a grocery environment.

Next, we added short statements about her skills and why she wanted the job at Loblaws. This gave employers a quick snapshot of her strengths and capabilities.

Highlighting What She Loves

One of the most important parts of the resume was showing her genuine interest in the grocery store. Because she has been going for years, and is always excited to be there, it helped employers see that she wasn’t just looking for a job; she was looking for something meaningful to her.

The Impact

Sharing the visual resume helped Loblaws understand who Giulietta is and how she communicates. It removed the pressure of a traditional interview and allowed her skills to be seen right away. This played a big part in her joining the PC Express team in September 2023, where she now uses a scanner, finds items with support, and takes pride in her work.
